Delicious Vegan Chocolate Protein Smoothie

I love a good, filling smoothie! I’ve been making this delicious vegan chocolate protein smoothie recipe for years, and I have yet to tire of it! It makes the perfect breakfast or midday snack and keeps me full for hours.

Protein Powder & Collagen

There are a couple of vegan protein powders I really like, but I have been using Vega Protein and Greens for a while because it is lower in carbs than the other brands. It also has 20 grams of plant protein per scoop! I also like the Orgain Creamy Chocolate Fudge protein powder, but it does have a few more grams of carbs per serving.

I recently found the Plant Fusion Collagen powder and have started adding in one scoop to my smoothies for an extra boost of protein and nutrients (and it’s vegan!). Most collagen powders are animal-protein based, so I avoided them until I found this one at Whole Foods. The serving size is 2 scoops but I stick to one for this recipe.

Liquid Base

You can use your liquid of choice, but my favorite is unsweetened vanilla almond milk. If I need more liquid because the smoothie is too thick, I’ll add a splash or two of water.

Add in Your Fruit and Veggies!

Adding in a banana and frozen spinach are what gives this smoothie a creamy consistency and thicker texture (read: more filling!). They also add in essential nutrients and a serving of greens! You can also add in other frozen berries or fruit to your preference. Sometimes I add in a half cup of frozen blueberries.

Tip: I freeze a whole bag of spinach, and use it as needed. You can definitely add in non-frozen spinach, but I find I need less ice when I freeze it. Also, the spinach lasts longer in the freezer so I buy the largest bag and store it.
